Historic Roots - Modern Fruits

Find your own connection to our shared past, with skills and experiences that yield positive fruit in your daily life. We depend on our volunteers to help carry out this mission.

4th Grade Idaho History Tours:  May 10-11-12, May 17-18-19, May 24- 4 hrs each day

Fourth graders come to the park for 2.5 hours on their prescheduled day. They start in the amphitheater where the theme is introduced. They will then rotate through 6 stations 15 min. each ending back at the amphitheater for the wrap up. Volunteers are needed to help run each station.

  • Make a time commitment that works for you.
  • Volunteers need to be comfortable with encouraging interaction, answering questions, keeping to a timed schedule, and being able to complete station set-up and take-down.
  • Most volunteers choose to serve in comfortable, modern clothing with a provided staff apron. If you would like to dress in costume it must be approved by the Tours & Interpretation Director before use.

Age 14 and older are encouraged to volunteer. Volunteers will be working with station partners of different ages and backgrounds.

SERVICE STAFF

Park Mentors: Tues and Thursday 10-2:00, April- August

We are blessed with service missionaries who help with grounds and projects through the spring and summer. We want to help enhance their mission experience by partnering with local experts who mentor them in various facets of Park service, taking them beyond the tasks and into personal application of new skills.

  • Mentor skills needed at this time are: Gardening, Small Building Repair/Carpentry and Building Upkeep
  • Make a time commitment that works for you.
  • Mentors should be comfortable working in groups of various sizes with young adults from a variety of backgrounds, with a variety of skills and experience levels. You should be able to demonstrate and supervise tool use, assign tasks appropriate to individuals and the project, and oversee completing projects for the day.
  • Mentors serve in their own climate- and task appropriate clothing. Most sessions are outdoors.

Thursday Community Nights at the Park: Thursday nights in June and July- 4 hrs each night

Community members are invited to the park Thursday nights to participate in 4 different stations. Each station will incorporate different themes each week, including topics of history, naturalism, gardens, botany, science, cultures, arts, and historical living.

  • Make a time commitment that works for you.
  • Volunteers need to be comfortable with encouraging interaction, answering questions, keeping to a timed schedule, and being able to complete station set-up and take-down.
  • Most volunteers choose to serve in comfortable, modern clothing with a provided staff apron. If you would like to dress in costume it must be approved by the Tours & Interpretation Director before use.

**Mandatory volunteer training meeting will take place late March, and mid April for full training in station historical and science facts, stories, and hands-on activities. You will be provided with station content and activities of which you will be teaching. **
